As adoption of lower-carbon transportation fuels increased, FortisBC identified an opportunity to help customers communicate their environmental commitment through their vehicle fleets. The objective was to create a recognizable set of energy emblems that could be applied to vehicles powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), and Electricity (E). The emblems would serve as both a source of pride for transportation customers and a visible symbol of their efforts to reduce transportation-related emissions.
Inspiration
The original CNG and LNG emblems drew inspiration from industry-recognized safety markers already used on natural gas vehicles, helping establish an immediate connection to vehicle energy systems. To create a more distinctive and premium appearance, I incorporated influences from automotive manufacturer badges, developing dimensional, vehicle-grade emblems designed to feel at home alongside factory branding.

Liquefied natural gas for transportation
Following the success of the initial designs and strong customer adoption, the system was expanded to include Renewable Natural Gas and Electricity emblems, creating a cohesive family of symbols for FortisBC's Low Carbon Transportation initiatives.

Electricity for transportation
The resulting emblems were embraced by both FortisBC and its transportation customers, providing a simple and highly visible way to communicate the use of lower-carbon energy solutions. The project helped strengthen awareness of alternative transportation fuels while giving participating organizations a recognizable symbol of their environmental leadership.
